Going off the beaten track
Aramaga Rift Valley Lodge is just 10 km outside Fort Portal. The lodge overlooks the spectacular Great Rift Valley and Semuliki Wildlife Reserve. In the distance you can also Congo’s Blue Mountains and even of Lake Albert.
There are six sleeping pods, named Moonshot, Orbit, Supernova, Starship, Galactic and Gravity. The reason for the space themed pod names are the incredible views of the stars visible on a clear night both from the sleeping pods or the telescope is available at reception.
Five of the pods are double rooms with the possibility of single occupancy. They are equipped with a French double bed, bathroom with shower, wardrobe, a bench and a desk. Moonshot is the biggest pod with 4 beds (one king size and two singles) and more room to sit and relax. All of the pods have a bathtub on the rooftop. Get in touch to find out how you can incorporate this lodge into your itinerary.
Community Initiatives
No visit to the Buhoma Sector of Bwindi would be complete without a visit to Ride 4 a Woman. The incredible women's social enterprise that has gone from strength to strength and has helped so many in the local community. The entertainment you see in the video is provided by the ladies who work with the Ride 4 a Woman and takes place at the Uganda Wildlife Authority Headquarters in Buhoma, before a gorilla trek a couple of times a week.
There is now a reason to stay a while longer after you get back from your gorilla trek because the The Engagi Community Cafe has recently opened on the top floor of Uganda Wildlife Authority Headquarters and it is being run by Ride 4 a Woman. This is an incredible achievement and will create so many more opportunities to help and improve the community. Be sure to pop in and say hello next time you are in Buhoma.
