Murchison Falls walking safaris

A new activity for an iconic national park

"There is no better way to experience the African bush than on foot, engaging all of your senses: the whisper of the grass, the smells of the soil, the sights of animals" these are the words of the founder of Bushwonderers, a company that has set up Murchison Falls walking safaris. The company describes the walking safaris as:

  • Active, adventurous, and give you the freedom to explore areas unreachable by car.

  • Lasting around 3-5 hours every day: a leisurely exploration in which you immerse your senses in nature.

  • Encountering a variety of wildlife (antelopes, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes). You will learn about (and touch, smell, observe and hear) a variety of plants, trees, birdlife, and insects.

  • Every walk is unique as the bush habitat changes continually and is shaped by dry and wet seasons.

Each walking safari consists of the following:

  • A guided walking safari experience

  • Accommodation in fully equipped & staffed tented camps

  • Max 6 - 8 guests

  • Four star meals

  • Ability to customise the walking safari with other activites ( game drive / boat cruises )

The BushWonderers team is made up of well-trained and friendly staff including:

Camp Staff - manager, guide, cooks, waiters, attendants, drivers

UWA Rangers - Two to three rangers at all times for security & guiding

Although all the safaris are customisable a typical day on a walking safari would look like this:

Morning Bush Walk - Typically begins at 07.00 lasting around 2.5hrs to 4.0hrs. Breakfast can be served prior to the walk or at a convenient break point during the walk.

Midday rest at the tented camp, where lunch is served as there are a vareity of books and games to keep your entertained.

Afternoon Bush Walk - A shorter walk lasting 1hr to 2hrs around the camp, or a game drive followed by a sundowner at Nyamsika Viewpoint and returing to the camp for dinner.

All the BushWonderer camps have:
